Getting Started
This guide walks you through installing and configuring Packstation Lookup on your Shopify store.
Prerequisites
- A Shopify store selling to Germany
- The Packstation Lookup app installed from the Shopify App Store
Step 1: Enable the Checkout Extension
After installing the app, the checkout UI extension needs to be active:
- Open your Shopify admin
- Go to Settings → Checkout → Customize checkout
- In the checkout editor, confirm that the Packstation Lookup extension is visible in the shipping address section
- Click Save
Step 2: Configure Settings
From the app’s admin page you can configure:
Field Mapping
Choose which Shopify address fields the pickup address is written to:
- Street field — Where the street name and number are stored (default:
address1) - Name field — Where the location name is stored (default:
address2) - Number field — Where the Packstation number is stored
- Postnummer field — Where the customer’s Postnummer is stored (default:
company)
Postnummer Settings
- Postnummer required — When enabled, customers must enter a Postnummer for Packstation deliveries. Paketshops and Postfilialen never require a Postnummer.
- DHL API validation — When DHL credentials are configured, the Postnummer is validated against DHL’s API to confirm it matches the customer’s name.
Validation Settings
- Block manual modification — Prevents customers from editing address fields after a pickup location is applied.
- Require finder for Packstation — Forces customers to use the lookup tool rather than typing a Packstation address manually.
Step 3: Test at Checkout
- Open your storefront and add a product to the cart
- Proceed to checkout
- Set the shipping country to Germany
- You should see a DHL Pickup Point section with a “Find DHL Pickup Point” button
- Click the button, search for a postal code (e.g.
01069), and select a location - Confirm the address is applied correctly
How It Works
Customer Flow
- Customer reaches the shipping step at checkout
- They click Find DHL Pickup Point
- A modal opens with a search field and map
- They search by postal code or city name
- Results appear as a list on the left and markers on the map
- They select a location, optionally enter their Postnummer
- They confirm, and the address fields are populated automatically
Location Types
| Type | Description | Postnummer |
|---|---|---|
| Packstation | Automated parcel locker, available 24/7 | Optional or required (configurable) |
| Paketshop | Retail partner location with counter service | Not needed |
| Postfiliale | Deutsche Post branch office | Not needed |
Address Guard
Once a pickup address is applied, the address guard monitors the shipping address fields. If the customer manually edits a field that was populated by the finder, a validation error is shown asking them to use the finder instead. This prevents incorrect addresses from reaching DHL.
The guard can be configured to either warn or block, depending on your preference.
